Screen Properties

The Resolutionis the full pixel dimensions of your physical display (e.g., 1920 × 1080). The Available space shows the usable screen area excluding operating system elements like the taskbar or dock. The Window Size reflects the current dimensions of your browser window, which changes as you resize it. Pixel Ratioindicates how many physical pixels correspond to each CSS pixel—a value of 2 means the display is Retina or HiDPI.Color Depthreports the number of bits used to represent each pixel’s color (typically 24 or 32 bits, supporting millions of colors). Browser and System Properties

The tool identifies your Browser name and version by parsing the user agent string. The Engine field shows the underlying rendering engine (Blink, Gecko, or WebKit). Your Operating System is detected from the user agent, including the version when available. The Device Type classifies your device as Desktop, Mobile, or Tablet based on the user agent characteristics.

Device Pixel Ratio

The Device Pixel Ratio (DPR) is a multiplier that describes the relationship between CSS pixels and physical pixels on your display. A DPR of 1 means one CSS pixel equals one physical pixel, which is typical of standard displays. A DPR of 2 means each CSS pixel is rendered using 2 × 2 = 4 physical pixels, as found on Apple Retina displays and many modern Windows laptops. Some high-end smartphones have DPRs of 3 or even 4, meaning content is rendered at extremely high density.

DPR matters for web developers because it affects how images and graphics appear on screen. An image that is 100 CSS pixels wide will be rendered using 200 physical pixels on a 2x display, so serving a higher-resolution image prevents blurriness. CSS media queries can use DPR to conditionally load appropriate assets. For example, @media (min-resolution: 2dppx)targets HiDPI screens. Why is my screen resolution different from what my monitor specs say?

The resolution reported by the browser reflects the current display settings, which may be lower than your monitor’s native resolution if you have enabled display scaling. For example, a 4K monitor running at 150% scaling in Windows will report a lower effective resolution. The Device Pixel Ratio field helps clarify this—a DPR above 1 indicates that scaling is active.

What is the difference between screen resolution and window size?

Screen resolution is the total pixel count of your physical display, while window size is the current dimensions of your browser window. The window size is always less than or equal to the screen resolution because the browser window does not fill the entire screen unless maximized. The “Available” value shows how much of the screen is usable excluding the taskbar or dock.

Can this tool detect multiple monitors?

No. The browser’s window.screenAPI reports information about the monitor where the browser window is currently located. If you move the browser window to a different monitor, the values will update to reflect that monitor’s properties. However, the tool cannot detect or list all connected monitors simultaneously.

Why does the browser detection sometimes show the wrong name?

Browser detection is based on parsing the user agent string, which can be spoofed or modified by browser extensions, privacy settings, or the browser itself. Some browsers intentionally identify as other browsers for compatibility reasons. For the most accurate results, ensure you are not using a user agent spoofing extension.
