About KnowKit
A collection of free online utilities built for developers, designers, and anyone who works with text, data, and code.
Hi, I'm Nelson, and I built KnowKit. It's a collection of free online utilities I created because I kept running into the same problems over and over — formatting JSON, generating QR codes, counting words in a document, converting colors between formats — and I was tired of finding utilities that were bloated with ads, required sign-ups, or uploaded my data to some server somewhere.
Why I Built This
I work with text, data, and code every day. I needed utilities that were fast, reliable, and respectful of my privacy. So I started building them myself — first just the ones I used most, then adding more as I found new needs. Every utility on KnowKit processes everything locally in your browser. Nothing gets uploaded, nothing gets stored, nothing gets sent anywhere. What you paste stays on your device.
Background & Expertise
I'm a software developer with experience in web development, data processing, and building developer utilities. I work with JSON, APIs, and text processing daily as part of my professional work, and I built KnowKit's utilities to solve real problems I encounter in my workflow.
Every guide and tutorial on this site is based on hands-on experience with the utilities and technologies covered. When I write about Base64 encoding, it's because I've debugged encoding issues in production systems. When I explain BMI, it's because I researched the topic thoroughly to build an accurate calculator. The goal is to share practical knowledge that actually helps you solve problems.
The Principles
Free, always
Every utility is free to use with no limits, no feature gates, and no "upgrade to pro" prompts. I cover costs through modest, non-intrusive advertising.
Privacy by default
All processing happens in your browser. Your files, your text, your data — it never leaves your machine. There are no user accounts tracking what you do.
No installation needed
Open a browser tab, use the utility, close the tab. No apps to install, no extensions to add, no permissions to grant. Works on any device with a modern browser.
Built as a Solo Project
KnowKit is an independent project — designed, developed, and maintained by one person. I build the utilities, write the code, fix the bugs, and keep everything running. It is not backed by a company or funded by investors. If you find these utilities useful, I would genuinely appreciate you sharing them with someone who might benefit too.
